Not a single woman. Not a single girl. The biggest motorcycle club in Spain, the Moto Club Segre, did not bring a single girl to the stage of the Teatre Armengol in Bellpuig yesterday during the annual awards and diploma ceremony, Best of the year 2021. Yes, obviously there were no girls awarded because there was no candidates, not because the club did banned them, but surely here lies what should make us think seriously. What is going on in our society where there are still overly masculinized activities? While it seems that sports like football are now starting to open their attention (especially in the media) to women, there are still some that are anchored in the past decades. It doesn't seem to me that women's anatomy do not allow them to ride a motorcycle and I doubt they can't be as competitive as boys, although some say the opposite, based on absurd premises about the toughness of motocross. What I fear, and this is a personal opinion, is that mothers, fathers, elite and amateur riders, federations, organizers and politicians have not yet fully understood that sport education and its practice should surpass once and for all the condition of gender and its stereotypes. In other words, we are still in a time when we are educating girls with earrings, dolls and pink dresses.
