Yesterday I discovered Antoni Arissa and I got impressed with the strength of his compositions and lights, but even more with the tone of his realism.
According to biographers, Antoni Arissa (1900-1980) was more interested in creative experimentation than in documentary work, which led him to play with lights and shapes. Certainly his work is superb, but my professional background made me focus more on his realistic work, which belongs to his first period.
The beautiful faces of the countryside, some unfocused shots, the Barcelona during Primo de Rivera’s dictatorship and the magical interpretation and even surreal of the childhood, made Antoni Arissa an advanced photographer.
Now, the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) has recovered his work from the shadows and I suggest hats off before visiting.
